If you have any questions about your tax filings and you want to call the CRA, then what should you do Here are some tips:

Tip #1: be nice and polite

CRA agents are human beings and they deserve respect as well. Talk to them nicely and explain the situation clearly. If they are on your side, you will get the answer/solve the issue in an efficient way.

Tip# 2: be patient

You may need to redial the number a few times when you hear a busy signal. Or you may try to call the CRA in different time during the day. My best suggestion is that calling the CRA either in the early morning or early afternoon. Generally, they are really busy. In addition, get yourself prepared and have all required documents ready like social insurance number, business number, notice of assessment, etc. Furthermore, get your questions ready in a concise format so that the CRA agent will understand the situation quickly.

Tip#3: take notes

When speaking to the CRA, it is always recommended that you take a note on the information that you obtain from them. When the conversation is done, remember to nicely ask the CRA agent’s ID and put down the date and time when the conversation takes place. The note can be used for future reference in case there is any discrepancy.

Tip# 4: leave it to the professional

If you still feel nervous when all is prepared, then let your accountant/lawyer do their job. Definitely they can do the job professionally and make you feel relieved and let you focus on your core business.
